Well I am! I have to give a little chuckle sometimes because I get asked that question...and often!
That's where people confuse our opportunity with a home party plan sales business. Sure, there are some ladies out there doing candle parties with our candles. But at the fundemental core of our company is not your Mom's Party Plan Candle Business. Very far from it!
The candle is the product, the vehicle that drives the sales and the company. Compared to other products I've seen offered by other companies, it's a product people get enthused about. Every company has to have a product.
But the REAL PRODUCT IS NOT JUST A CANDLE....BUT A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY. The opportunity to grow a business part or full time from home, on your terms, in your time frame. Without changing your lifestyle or quitting your job. It's a means to grow an extra income that could make a difference in your family's finances all the way up to setting you financially free. And the person in the "drivers seat" is you - not a boss - so you in essence determine your final destination by what you do and bring to the business.

I retired from a party plan type sales company in 2001 for the simple reason that I did not want to do home parties. Now I know you men can say "But at least you are a woman and can do them" but truthfully I did not want to. When I found this business I already had a full time job that kept me away from home 9+ hours a day. I didn't want to be away from my (then) small son in the evenings so the next business I went into
HAD TO BE one that did not involve home parties or party plan sales at it's front and center. I am in no way downing the direct sales party plan industry. There are many making nice incomes working from home in that industry. But it just wasn't for me at that point in my life. So the next business I found had to have what I wanted.....
I found the candle business to be a great business because it wasn't only what I wanted....but WHAT WOMEN WANT.
Now that probably conjures up some funny thoughts of that movie with Mel Gibson where he could tell what women really wanted and hear their thoughts. Not exactly where I am going here but I can tell you that CANDLES ARE WHAT WOMEN WANT!
Fact is....the majority of the retail product that exchanges hands is purchased by women.
But the Candle Business Facts and Statistics point out some interesting points:
* The candle industry is a $3 Billion dollar industry and is growing at an estimated 10% a year.
* The latest trend in candles is shifting towards alternative or more natural waxes. Our candles meet that need.
* Candles are burned in 8 out of 10 homes in the United States.
* The current demographic that distinguishes candle buyers is young women, age 44 and younger that head families with children.
* Candles are a highly consumable product (meaning repeat business!). Candles are a "feel good" product people will purchase.
* Candles are purchased at about the same rate across all income groups, ethnic groups and at all educational levels.
* The next boom in candles is and will continue to be in natural wax candles.
Most men will look at our opportunity from the side of Network Marketing....which is actually where it has it's biggest potential so let's look at that...
Some of the largest income earners in our company (some earning six-figure yearly incomes) are MEN! Some of the most successful and consistent distributors on my team are...you guessed it.....MEN! My team, The Flames Team has dozens of male distributors that enjoy equal success with "us women" if you will. Some work alone, some with a spouse but my point being gender has no bearing on the level of success you can reach.

The simplicity of our marketing plan and sharing the candle with others. Candles don't require an elaborate presentation or a lot of technical sales knowledge. Using our simple "Show and Smell" technique countless numbers of candle sales are happening every day. If you can say "Do You Burn Scented Candles?" you can do this business! It's basically a turn-key business. You don't reinvent the wheel - you just profit from it!
A much lower monthly autoshipment than most other Network Marketing Companies. Most other opportunities out there have monthly autoships of $100 and over! An added bonus is our company enjoys a much higher per distributor order than just the required monthly autoship due to the direct sales activities going on - scented candles being sold person to person - with and and due to the consumable nature of our candles. People want more!
Candles speak a universal language - people want and understand them. There's not need for a lot of explanation. They are highly consumable. Compare that into getting into another company and having to convince someone the value of and why they need the next lotion, potion, pill, powder etc. etc. With so much competition it takes a lot of convincing sometimes especially when it comes to nutritional values of products.
With most lotions, potions, pills and powders you have to find or create a need. Usually those products are overpriced for the market in a lot of cases. Our candles are within the price range of the gourmet-quality scented candle market you will see in retail stores and your local mall. With gourmet candles it's not about need but about consumers wanting a candle that burns cleaner made of a more natural wax blend that smells true to scent to the end. The value is already there! Which makes presenting the product and opportunity to others easy.
In the industry, there is very little competition in the candle business. Compare that to hundreds upon hundreds of other juice, nutritional, cosmetics and skin care companies!
There are as many men as women succeeding with our Gourmet Candle Business every day! It's an even playing field. Gender is not an issue. So YES.... MEN IN OUR CANDLE BUSINESS is very real for the reasons listed here and more.....
